Cabrillo Internet Broadcasts
By Mark Flegg
Radio station KUSP of the California Central Coast region will be broadcasting several of our Cabrillo Festival concerts over the next few weeks. These broadcasts are available online! Here’s the schedule from their website (NOTE: all times on the original website are PAC time, but I’ve changed them here to Eastern time, since that’s where I and most of my readers are):
Sunday, August 24, 2 pm: San Juan Day with Music at the Mission. This grand finale of the season presents four composers new to the Festival. Harvest Festival by Chiayu is the world premiere of the program. The Festival Strings perform Last Round by Osvaldo Golijov. Also on the program: To the New World by Alla Borzova and Variations Without a Theme by Avner Dorman. Marin Alsop conducts the Festival Orchestra.
Thursday, August 28, 10 pm: Triple Play. Evelyn Glennie performs Conjurer, the new percussion concerto composed for her by John Corigliano. New works by Dorothy Chang and Mason Bates complete the program. In the Works, a short program of works by young composers chosen to have their music rehearsed and performed by the Festival Orchestra.
Sunday, August 31, 2 pm: In the Blue Room with Matt Haimovitz, presenting a program of contemporary solo cello music, with electronica wizard Mason Bates providing soundscapes between performances. [NOTE: No orchestra on this concert, but I am including it anyway]
